The central district police have nabbed an international credit card cloning gang. One of the members of the gang named Sahubar Maina Mohammad has been arrested on the same grounds.

“On August 18, owner of Spice Retails Ltd in Daryaganj area informed sub-inspector Dharmender about a `Spanish man’ who had come to the shop to buy cellphones. He was allegedly carrying a number of credit cards and the shop owner found his activities suspicious,” said DCP (central) Jaspal Singh.

The passport held by the person was found to be a forged one.

It is not surprising to see people bending over backwards to apply for the rewards credit cards. They are lured towards them with the promises of air miles and cash back offers being made. In this process, they fail to realize that these are just small freebies being given away by credit card lenders who end up making millions of dollars. Should you be allowed to sit in your skivvies and gamble away your time via online poker? And go into credit card debt if you lose?

We have written extensively about the issue of online gambling, since the most popular way to pay for that habit has been credit cards.

A 2006 federal law, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, placed the onus on credit card issuers to make sure their cards weren’t being used for online gambling.

Now, in a twist, California Attorney General (and gubernatorial candidate) Jerry Brown has announced that his office will start using the Web to prevent problem gamblers from going into cardrooms.

The railway ministry has come up with a customer friendly move by deciding to accept credit cards of customers bearing their laminated photographs as their proof of identity for travel using e-tickets.

This concept has come into effect from 6th of August 2010.
